Sustainability and Biodiesel

A big concern facing the biodiesel industry is one of sustainabiilty.  Will biodiesel really be part of a long term solution for our energy problems?  I believe it is and will continue to be a solution.  I'd like to hear from those who are currently working on this issue and how what they see as the key hurdles in getting past the sustainability issue as it relates to biodiesel.

A key hurdle is education.  As our culture learns to focus more on the limited resources available to sustain our way of life, it will become more apparent that the best fuels will be those with the highest energy balance and the lowest carbon footprint.  Biodiesel's energy balance of 3.5 to 1and reduction in lifecycle CO2 of 78% compared to petroleum diesel make it a logical choice.  These facts need to be made clear to the consumer and policy makers.
